About

Are you ready to go from surviving to thriving?

Hi, I'm Dr. Carrie Sweetser, a licensed clinical psychologist helping adolescents and adults in the Twin Cities. With 15 years of clinical experience, I may be just the therapist you've been looking for. I am a warm, curious and non-judgmental therapist who will facilitate lasting change by collaborating with you as we work together toward your goals. I have expertise in a variety of evidence based treatments which I draw on to provide you with individualized, evidence based care. I I often incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness in my work. I am passionate about creating a safe space for my clients, and it is an honor to be trusted with their unique and personal stories. It is my mission to honor and affirm people of all backgrounds and identities. I am social justice oriented and strive to always view clients through a multicultural and trauma informed lens. Most people start therapy because they feel stuck and are looking to change. Common transformations I have seen in my clients are as follows: -Be more present in their life -Increased self-compassion and self-acceptance -Enhanced ability to cope with challenging emotions -Greater self-awareness -Improved relationships through healthier communication, conflict resolution skills, and boundary setting -Enhanced resilience through retelling their trauma story -Improved confidence and self-esteem -Ability to let go of unrealistic standards and reshape how they view success -Live out their values by breaking their pattern of avoidance -Find peace and meaning through processing grief and loss -Understand and appreciate their highly sensitive person personality trait -Develop daily habits to support physical and mental health -Feel more connected, balanced, and empowered -Feel like you are enough Education & Training My clients benefit from the exceptional training I received from the PGSP-Stanford PsyD Consortium , where I earned my Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology. At Stanford University School of Medicine I developed a CBT treatment for mothers with trauma symptoms following preterm birth and NICU hospitalization. After moving to Minnesota, I completed an APA-accredited predoctoral internship at Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation which deepened my understanding of substance use disorders and treatment. During a postdoctoral fellowship at University of Minnesota/PrairieCare I developed and ran the Healthy Emotions Program, a successful IOP group treatment program for teens with depression and anxiety. Prior to founding Memor Mental Health, I provided outpatient therapy services for children, adolescents, and adults at Behavioral Health Services, Inc (BHSI).
